Max the Whippet needs a new foster or a forever home

Max

Courtesy Post for All About Whippets

Born: 6 to 10 years old
Color: White and Brindle
Gender: Male
Weight
Status: Available

Max is a neutered senior whippet, currently being fostered in Mesa, but he needs a new foster or a forever home soon! His person fell, was hospitalized, and ultimately passed away at the beginning of February.

Max was picked up by a rescuer, and it was discovered that he can’t live with cats. So he needs a foster or adopter without any furry creatures in the house. He was raised with a female whippet until she died a year ago. However, he doesn’t get along well with other male dogs.

Max is calm, quiet, house broken, and good in the house alone. The owner’s family said that Max is current on rabies vaccine and will locate Max’s vet records. His age is unknown until his vet records are located. He could be anywhere from 6 to 10 years old.

If you have a home without cats, furry creatures, small dogs, or male dogs, please consider fostering or adopting Max! Email Barb at whippets@theriver.com.

Danny 5 CloseUp 1

Danny (now Heika)

Born: Dec 2018
Color: Black Greyhound
Gender: Male
Weight: 77 lbs
Status: Adoption Pending

Danny/Heika is from Australia. His race name was Lethal Vision. He was 5 on New Years Eve and weighs 77 lbs.

Danny needs an experienced greyhound owner willing to give him a good daily romp and enjoy a little playtime tossing toys. He is best described as a Labrador in a greyhound body. He is very smart and will push boundaries. He has lived in foster home in Australia.

Danny needed some training to help him focus and be the best he can be, so he went to Sol Dog Lodge to work with Rachel for a couple of weeks. He did great, but still needs to work every day on his listening skills.

He is currently living in a foster home with a greyhound foster brother and sister where he is learning house manners. He uses a doggie door, walks well on a leash, and is learning to listen. He will need an experienced adopter who can work with him every day and give him the exercise and care he needs.

MARLIN

Born: 2021
Color: Brindle Lurcher
Gender: Male
Weight: 95 lbs
Status: Available

Hi! My name is Marlin and I’m from California! You may have noticed from my photo shoot that I am a very large, very handsome boy! My foster family says I am very happy and sweet as can be, but I can be stubborn as I learn the ways of being a pet. I am young and healthy, and my special need is that I am a jumper and can easily scale a 6′ block wall or fence to go exploring outside the safety of my home… which I have done a couple of times since I have been here. I am currently being leashed for potty breaks and cannot be allowed out in the yard by myself.

My ideal home and family would be greyhound-experienced and with at least an 8′ or higher fence or block wall with a yard to prevent my adventurous escapes and where I can run and play safely and just enjoy life. If you are interested in being my forever home and able to to accommodate my needs, I will be happily waiting to meet you and join your family

If you are interested in Marlin, please submit an Application for Adoption on the Arizona Adopt A Greyhound website! You can also check out other greyhounds available through AAGI!

COURTESY POSTING

Several weeks ago Arizona Heartfelt Hounds was notified about a sighthound mix in Globe that an owner wanted to surrender. Unfortunately, we were not able to take him in. However a wonderful good Samaritan stepped up and picked him up. We are posting their availability as a courtesy to help them find their forever homes.

Please email Deb, Pogo’s Foster Mom, at CdeOeste@gmail.com for general questions. Potential adopters must complete an adoption application, home visit, and adoption contract. Potential families are welcome to visit multiple times after adoption application and ongoing support is included if desireed.

Pogo

Pogo fbody left look post

Born: 2020
Color: Black/White Whippet Mix
Gender: Male
Weight: 60 lbs
Status: Available

Pogo (for his vertical pogo-ing skills) is MR. ENTHUSIASM! He is VERY EXCITED about everything right now. This handsome boy is so happy for attention, and just being indoors after being chained out in a pasture, that he doesn’t know how to manage his joy at the prospect of being a house dog!

Pogo is a younger adult, at 2-3 years old. This bounding athletic face-kisser is super outgoing. He barks in the backyard at strange sights and sounds, including his foster mom’s tortoise, so is an effective watchdog. He is way too friendly for any guardian role. He will join in with neighborhood coyotes or sirens for a short roooooo. Dog savvy teens would be ideal playmates, though kids under ten could be bowled over by this black and white rocket, aka 60 pounds of pure joy. Bonus! Pogo crates well overnight with no accidents, walks and recalls to sit well on leash, and enters and rides very nicely in the car.

This flashy “Diamond in the Rough”, is recommended to previous dog owners with skills to enhance his training and whose active lifestyle already includes deliberate exercise. Obedience class would enhance his place in an active and loving home. This goofy, affectionate boy MUST have two daily walks daily along with outdoor play “Zoomies”.

Pogo was neutered, microchipped, and has rabies and DHPP shots. His adoption fee is $425. Apply directly for Pogo to his foster mom, Deb, at CdeOeste@gmail.com for general questions.

Adoption application, home check, and adoption contract are required. Bonus… ongoing support if needed!

Greyhounds

We have a waiting list for Greyhounds. We have 4 retired racers from Australia coming in January 2023, but we believe they are all spoken for.

Please check back often… we do have hounds that return to us from time to time. We like to get dogs that are use to being in homes placed with a Foster Family or in a new home quickly. We don’t place hounds on a first come/first served basis… we will continue to match each hound with the best adopter and the best home.

Sighthounds

We are hoping to receive Lurchers from the American Lurcher Project in Ohio in 2023!

Check back again soon…

Hound Mixes

WE ANTICIPATE RECEIVING MORE HOUND MIXES, BUT WE DON’T KNOW WHEN.
Typically we don’t have much lead time when we receive hound mixes.
